Property Tax & Rent Rebate Application Deadline Extended

If you have not filed already, there is still time to file for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program. The deadline has been extended for eligible Pennsylvania residents from June 30th until December 31, 2022.  The Treasury Department has determined that there are enough funds to pay all eligible persons, which is why they have extended the deadline this year. See: Extended Deadline for Rebate Applications

But you should try to get your application as soon as you can – rebate checks are issued in July and then as applications are received.

The maximum standard rebate is $650.00, but individual amounts will vary. The program benefits Pennsylvanians ages 65 and older; widows and widowers ages 50 and older; and people with disabilities ages 18 and older. The income limit is no more than $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters during the 2021 year. When calculating income, only half of the annual Social Security income is included.

You can apply online at or submit a paper application. If you need help, you should reach out to your local representative’s office or county area agency on aging. You will need to upload or mail in copies of some documents, including income, property tax or rental information, so it is a good idea to review the list of documents needed. For renters, you will need to submit a PA Rent Certificate, either signed by your landlord, or completed by you with an Occupancy Affidavit and a reason the landlord’s signature could not be obtained. See:

Last year, $213 million dollars in rebate money was distributed, and given the rising costs this year, we want to make sure all eligible persons or households apply for and receive their rebate. There is a proposal in the current budget discussions to increase the rebate amount, but the budget discussions are still underway in Harrisburg as of this date.
