Legal Aid Attorney Needed – Medical-Legal Project – Allentown, PA

NPLS has an immediate attorney opening to be part of a medical-legal project with Valley Health Partners of Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. With the assistance of a paralegal, the MLP attorney will accept referrals from medical providers whose patients are experiencing various legal problems such as: housing, public benefits, income maintenance and future care planning. The idea behind this medical-legal collaboration is the understanding that a patient’s legal situation often has a direct impact on their health and well-being.

The Bethlehem office serves Lehigh and Northampton counties. The attorney hired for this position will be part of the Bethlehem office staff comprised of 13 experienced staff attorneys and seven experienced paralegals in the provision of legal services. 

Requirements
North Penn seeks attorney candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to public interest work serving the legal needs of low income people. Attorneys must be licensed to practice law in PA. Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) is desirable as is medical/legal experience or health advocacy and in areas identified above.

Compensation and Benefits
A significant portion of the compensation paid to staff is employer-paid health and HSA benefits as well as generous holidays and leave time. NPLS also offers cash-in-lieu of health and dental if qualifications are met. Other benefits include frequent training and professional growth opportunities and potential eligibility for loan repayment programs.
