Pay: $66,165–$72,165 annually, based on qualifications and experience
Work Arrangement: Primarily in-office, with required field work and potential for limited remote work based on operational needs

About NPLS & the Position
North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) is a nonprofit civil legal aid organization serving 20 counties throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. We provide legal representation, advocacy, and community legal education to individuals and families who cannot otherwise afford legal assistance.
NPLS is seeking an experienced Staff Attorney to join our Bethlehem team. This position counsels and represents clients in legal matters, including providing legal advice and representation in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings. The Staff Attorney also participates in community outreach and activities related to clients’ needs and contributes to the overall mission of expanding access to justice.
This is an opportunity to join a team dedicated to providing meaningful legal assistance to individuals and families throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to individual clients and client groups.
Provide clients with representation in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings.
Research and prepare legal documents and perform all tasks necessary to provide appropriate representation.
Conduct outreach for inaccessible, special needs, shut-ins, or other eligible persons who are in need of, or may be unaware of, legal services.
Participate in at least one statewide special task force.
Participate in community activities which relate to clients’ needs, within the bounds of federal and state guidelines.
Provide supervision of paralegal(s) in individual cases.
Attend and participate in local office and organization-wide meetings.
Maintain neat and orderly files, maintain time logs where required, and open and close files promptly following office procedures.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Degree from an accredited law school.
Membership in the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or eligibility for admission to practice law in Pennsylvania under 3.11 of the PA Bar Admission Rules.
Eligibility to practice law in Pennsylvania.
Ability to analyze and apply legal principles.
Ability to perform legal research using reference materials generally available within a law library and/or electronic resource tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.
Ability to relate to poverty and community groups as well as other staff.
Demonstrated commitment to working with the client community or related programs.
Ability to analyze and review legal documents to ensure necessary provisions are contained therein.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
Ability to communicate using e-mail and voice mail.
Ability to use and adapt to modern office technologies and equipment, including voice mail, e-mail, word processing, faxing, and copying.
Ability to use appropriate features of client database software.
Sensitivity to the needs of an economically, socially, and ethnically diverse group of people.
