Attorney Opening – Legal Aid Office in Williamsport, PA

The Williamsport office serves clients in Tioga, Lycoming, and Clinton counties. Attorneys may also provide advice or participate in virtual outreach for clients in other counties within our service area. This position will join a collaborative team of four attorneys and two paralegals.
 

Background

North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) is the regional civil legal services provider for Northeast Pennsylvania. We are a Pennsylvania nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality legal representation, advocacy, and community legal education to low-income individuals and families.

We seek team members who are committed to advancing civil legal justice and supporting clients with matters involving housing, public benefits, employment, family law, and other areas of public interest law. NPLS maintains staff in nine offices across twenty counties and provides outreach throughout our service area.

Salary is commensurate with relevant experience and based on a structured salary scale. Job Requirements and Duties

  • Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar
  • Representation of clients in a wide range of civil matters, including family law (custody), housing and landlord-tenant issues, consumer law, and mortgage foreclosure cases
  • Representation in magisterial district courts and courts of common pleas
  • Representation in state and federal courts
  • Representation in administrative proceedings, such as unemployment compensation referee hearings and administrative law judge hearings for SSI or public benefits
  • Conducting community workshops and outreach for clients and partner organizations
  • Inter-county travel, as needed
  • Experience in the above practice areas and a demonstrated commitment to public interest work
  • 0 to 5 years of experience (salary range $57,765 to $63,765, depending on experience)
     

Additional Considerations

Applicants will be evaluated based on their oral, writing, and advocacy skills, as well as relevant prior experience. Spanish language proficiency is a plus, and advocates who are fluent in Spanish are eligible for additional compensation.
