Schedule: Full-time -- 35 hours per week
Location: Pittston, PA
Pay: $36,476-$39,976 annually, based on qualifications and experience
Work Arrangement: Primarily in-office during training, with potential hybrid/remote opportunities after training

Background
North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) is a nonprofit civil legal aid organization serving 20 counties throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. We provide legal representation, advocacy, and community legal education to individuals and families who cannot otherwise afford legal assistance.
NPLS is seeking an Intake Worker to join our Pittston team. This position screens individuals seeking legal assistance, determines eligibility for services, and supports intake and case-related activities. The Intake Worker also assists with general office and administrative responsibilities, including client communication, document preparation, case file maintenance, and other office support.
This is an opportunity to join a team dedicated to expanding access to justice and providing meaningful legal assistance to individuals and families throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- Screen callers through the central intake system to determine eligibility for legal services.
- Conduct telephone interviews and accurately record information in the case management system.
- Use screening questionnaires and apply case acceptance criteria.
- Assist with case file maintenance and funding-related requirements, including file closing.
- Answer the main telephone line, schedule appointments, and assist clients and visitors.
- Prepare and format legal documents and correspondence.
- Assist with electronic court filings, bankruptcy data entry, and medical record compilation.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, including USPS and courthouse mail.
- Assist with Private Attorney Involvement (PAI), including client referrals to private attorneys and tracking.
- Assist with office equipment, supplies, and other administrative functions.
- Provide backup support to other staff as needed.
- Provide oral and written translation when applicable for bilingual staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated proficiency with secretarial or administrative skills.
- Strong computer and word-processing skills.
- Ability to conduct telephone interviews and accurately enter information into database software.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to complete typing and word-processing tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and office systems.
- Sensitivity to working with individuals from economically, socially, and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Preferred:
- Experience in legal services, a law office, or a similar administrative setting.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and principles.
- Experience with case management systems, Gaval, or similar software.
- Experience conducting client intake, screening, or telephone interviews.
- Spanish or other bilingual language skills.
